Roslyn hesitates, almost as if waiting for me before coming into the line. It is 11:20 Sunday night. I come around my register to greet her. “It is such a blessing to be living where we are with such freedoms.” I can sense Roslyn’s presence through her smile and the warmth behind her large designer glasses.
She goes on to tell me about her pivot from a Wall Street executive to working in human services. “The fulfillment wasn’t there. I looked at the people around me, where the drive was money, and knew there was a hole in my heart telling me this greed and shallowness would never fulfill me.”
Roslyn tells me of her strong faith in God especially with such a large change in her life.

Then I tell her my intention of connecting with people through cashiering without any desired outcome. My genuine interest has, I believed, revealed a kindness in people that becomes a gratefulness in itself.
“I think this is preparing you for a Calling, these are not random events or coincidences. We were supposed to meet tonight,” she tells me. I understand the feeling she has, and agree that there is some greater plan that we are unaware of that requires trust and faith.
“I feel so blessed that we have made this connection. I believe young kids are unaware of the importance of these types of moments. Who would have known that going to the grocery store at 11:30 at night on a Sunday would bring such a special moment. We must always keep an open heart-an open mind to realize the signs are out there for everyone to experience.” She had all the words, as I nodded in agreement.
As she left we hugged and said we hoped to cross paths in the future.
I gave her my mechanics number and a couple of places for her to walk in nature based on her inquiries and told her if she ever needs to reconnect she can email me through this blog or visit me at the grocery store. Remember, I told her “I Am who I Am, and that is enough.”
Thank you Roslyn. And thank you for all of the kind Souls entering on my path as my teachers.
