Outside of Cashiering-Seeing Light
With my intention to share kindness and compassion while doing my cashiering, I am experiencing goodness beyond the grocery store.
Andrew, a good friend of mine, told me after reading the stories on the blog found himself waiting in line for a high school sports dinner. People he knew were up front offered him a spot but he felt uncomfortable cutting. As he waited he was quick to take out his phone but decided better to try to enjoy the moment. He quickly found himself in dialogue with a gentleman in front of him which carried on until the line disappeared. As they departed they shared their contentment and wished each other well. “The craziest thing is I don’t even know his name or his child’s name. We had a wonderful conversation about life. This was so unlike me to open up to a stranger but it felt so right. I am so glad I chose not to go on my phone.”
Maybe those moments to connect will help us realize the goodness in people and how much we really do have in common with those around us.

Sitting in the sauna a young gentleman in his twenties and clearly fit starts stretching. He tells me all the benefits of the sauna before a workout including warming up the muscles and providing cell rejuvenation. “I also pray with my wife at night. Every night we tell Him how grateful we are for all He provides. You know they say couples who pray together are more likely to stay together.” He goes on to tell me how life has been so wonderful starting a new business and having a healthy two year old girl.
I later see Mike on a weight machine. We exchange greetings and we both agree that our conversation provided a warmth that set the tone for our day. I look forward to crossing paths with him in the future.
